Throughout the course of music history, the world has seen some pretty crazy trends – especially when it comes to style. There was a time when it was plausible that if you didn’t have an off-the-wall hairstyle to set you apart from the rest, you weren’t cut out for the industry. Some stars even became well-known more so for their radical hairstyles than for their music. Either way, whether an icon for hair or for music, these rockstars were lead to greatness.
From reverse green mohawks to icy blonde hair teased to the clouds, there’s definitely been some epic do’s that have rocked the scene. Here are the craziest ones we think you should take note of.
Joey B

Darryl Paa Kwesi Bannerman-Martin, known under the stage name Joey B, is a Ghanaian hip hop recording artist. He is well known for his single “Tonga”. He was born in Cape Coast, Ghana. He realized his talent for music at age six (6) when he formed a group and aided in ghost writing most of the songs they made together. This bolstered his unrelenting strong desire for music and pursued it. He had his primary education from St. Theresa’s school and later went to Accra High Senior High School. He graduated at Zenith University College in 2012.
Later on, he collaborated with producer Lil Shaker till they met Jayso, the founder of Skillions. From then on, he has worked with various labels and producers such as Hammer of The Last Two and Black Avenue Music and produced many hit songs such as “Tonga”, “Pinch mah Nips”, and “Strawberry”.
WurlD

Sadiq Onifade, known professionally as WurlD, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter. Born in Lagos, Nigeria, WurlD relocated to Atlanta, Georgia to pursue a secondary education and record music. He describes his style of music as electro-fusion. He released his debut EP Evolution in 2013. Born in Lagos, Nigeria, WurlD relocated to the US as a teenager and received his college education at Georgia State University, studying computer science. While in school, WurlD developed a serious interest in musical performance.
In late 2012, WurlD release his first single, “Beyond Our Dreams” from his debut EP titled Evolution, due summer 2013. Coinciding with the release, SESAC held an exclusive listening party at their Atlanta office for WurlD’s forthcoming Evolution EP. By early 2013, WurlD was in the recording studio with Mario, writing songs for the R&B superstar’s upcoming album. Shortly after, the music video for Evolution’s second single, “Alive” was premiered exclusively via MTV: The Wrap Up on May 2, 2013. WurlD also teamed up with Timbaland’s artist, BK Brasco as a featured artist on “Beautiful Girls.” He also appears in the song’s video.
In May 2016 WurlD released “Show You Off” an Afro-soul record featuring Walshy Fire of Major Lazer and Afro-beat producer Shizzi. In June 2016 WurlD released the collaborative track “Better Days” with Sir Felix; it became the official anthem for DelfSail 2016. WurlD (Sadiq Onifade) co-wrote the hit song “Blow my Mind” by Davido featuring Chris Brown in 2019. The song was produced by Davido’s long time collaborating producer Shizzi.
Petrah

Petrah, known in real life as Petra Miriam Tetteh is a Ghanaian RnB singer. She is currently signed onto Manner Records and has worked with some top musicians both in and out of Ghana. One Mavin Records super star, Reekado Banks and AMG artiste, Medikal among others. Some of her songs are Baby, Million, Odo, and a few others. She recently released her newest single ‘Badder’ and it is available on all online stores.
Medikal

Medikal , whose real name is Samuel Adu Frimpong , is a hip-hop artist from Ghana emerging from Chris Waddles AMG Business record Label. He is one of the hard-working rap artistes in Ghana as he had gradually attained the support of many Ghanaians through his adoption and repertoire of his hard banging Hip-Hop beats.
Medikal as a young emerging Ghanaian artiste has already been backed by an active fan base and has already released a couple of hit songs including Confirm, Forever My Love (featuring Bisa Kdei), Confirm Remix (featuring Sarkodie), By Heart Boy and Connect. 2016 Ghanaian music artiste of the year E.L also featured him on his recent mixtape B.A.R III: Lomi Era
Medikal amongst big artistes like Sarkodie had the highest nominations for the 2017 edition of the Ghana Music Awards.
Darko Vibes

Andrew Paul Nii Amu Darko (born 1985), known popularly as Darkovibes, is a Ghanaian born singer, songwriter and fashionista. His music categorizes as experimental music where he blends highlife, hip hop and rap. Darkovibes is known for his 2016 single ‘Mercy’. In 2012, he met Vacs, a music producer, who helped build him up as an artist and helped direct his musical career initially. From then on, he has worked with many artists, showbiz influencers and music producers on both fashion and music projects in Ghana and other parts of Africa.
Recently, he earned recognition as a nominee in the hip hop song of the year category at the Ghana Music Awards 2017 for his feature on Edem’s hit ‘Egboame’ the Remix. Darkovibes has collaborated with artists including Omar Sterling of R2bees, Joey B, Edem, Efya, Magnom, Vacs (Music Producer), Pheelz Mr. Producer from Nigeria, and Kuvie (Music Producer). In 2016, he worked with MTN Ghana by writing and performing the theme song for the MTN Pulse Campaign.
As a member of the creative collective, La Meme Gang, he has collaborated with all the other members, namely, Kiddblack, Nxwrth, RJZ, $pacely and Kwaku BS. La Meme Gang released their first collaborative studio tape, La Meme Tape, in 2017. In 2017, Darkovibes, among a few others, was picked by Vogue Magazine UK to describe his distinctive style in music and fashion at Ghana’s annual art and culture festival – ‘Chalewote’. His fashion sense infuses unique fashion styles of colored hairstyles[10], side bags and fashion elements from the 80’s.
Efe Keyz

Ellen Ayensuaa Gyapong (born on May 17) better known as Efe is an Afro-Pop and Pop vocalist, performer, songwriter, TV presenter and former beauty queen from Ghana. The name Efe comes from a part of the Western Region and is given to girls born on Friday.
Efe loves live band and have performed live band shows including ones with the Shakazulu Band and Chico Band among others. At the World Music Day concert recently held at Alliance Francais, she performed much to the admiration of the patrons and became the talk of the show. Efe was also selected among the top 20 acts for KLMSingAloud Talent Competition on Viasat 1.
Efe’s debut single titled ‘Meye Obaa’ featuring Donzy of Crusade fame sheds light on African women limitation to choice of men due to our culture and is expected to be released in July. Also in the offing is an Extended Play [EP] yet to be released that will cut across genres that have not been exploited yet in Ghana.
RJZ

RJZ real name Joseph Pharez Essuman Mensah (was born 19th July 1992) is a Ghanaian hip-hop musician and a member of the La Meme Gang. He went to Mfantsipim Senior High and was a 3-time Sprite Ball champion for the school. Everyone assumed he will become a professional basketball player but no one really expected him to venture into music even though he won “Best Rapper” back in school.
LA MÊME GANG is an urban group of individual Artists who have come together for the greater good. They comprise of (Ahmed Froko(Nxwrth), Elvis E. Amenyah(Spacely), Paul N. A. A. Darko(Darkovibes), Dennis Dorcoo(Kiddblack), Micheal K. Boateng(Kwaku BS) & Joshua E. Mensah(RJZ) The initial aim of the group was to drop a single on hitting 1K followers on Twitter. This was however changed to a much more bigger surprise!!
On 12/09/2017, LA MEME dropped their first ever Project as a group, self-titled LA MÊME EP.
Camidoh

Singer, Rapper, Music Writer & Producer , Raphael Kofi Attachie , known in the music circles as Camidoh, hails from Aflao in Volta region of Ghana. He is the first of three and was raised by a single parent: his mum – Christiana Dzifa Fudjoe, an economics teacher in Ola Senior High School. Camidoh grew up in Ho (Volta regional capital) and later moved to Accra (capital of Ghana) to chase his musical ambitions.
Camidoh developed the love for music around the age of 12 years when he was about entering junior high school. He first started listening and learning songs of Akon because his ‘lonely’ track had really gotten to him.
Fast forward Camidoh met an equally talented fellow whom he jelled very well with in high school and decided to merge to become a group called Belce. The group got signed and operated as a professional music duo under Myco Music from December 2008, then moved to 3fs Productions in April 2016 until 24th December 2017 when Belce decided to go solo leading to the termination of the contract.
Camidoh is super enthusiastic about anything musical and as a result of the passion, He learned production someway somehow along the line. He is mostly based along the Afropop / R&B line of sound and because he’s emotional in nature, he goes for love stories by default when he’s on the microphone. He is Currently signed to GRIND DON’T STOP RECORDS
Feli Nuna

Feli Nuna (/f3li nuna/; born May 20, 1990) is a Ghanaian rapper, singer, songwriter director and producer. Born and raised in Accra. She signed her first record deal as ‘Felly’ with Lynx entertainment in 2012 and released her first official single ‘Ghana Girl Swag’ but took a 2-year hiatus right after the release. She then resurfaced with a new rebrand as Feli Nuna in 2015 under Beehyve Entertainment with ‘I like Am’ and has been active till present.
Felicia Nuna Akosua Tawiah, popularly known as Feli Nuna was born in Accra Ghana on May 20, 1990 to Col. Theophilus Tawiah (Rtd) and Ms Sitsofe Dzansi. She hails from Leklebi Agbesia in the Volta Region of Ghana. She acquired her nursery, primary through to Basic Education at University of Ghana Basic School and her Senior Secondary Education at Akosombo International School. She was then admitted into the University of Ghana in 2009 where she studied English, Sociology and Psychology. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Psychology.
She signed her first record deal as ‘Felly’ with Lynx entertainment in 2012. Under Lynx Entertainment, she released ‘Ghana Girl Swag’. Relationship between Feli Nuna and lynx Entertainment didn’t go well and she ended up leaving the record label. In 2015, she signed with Beehyve entertainment and released ‘I like am ‘ which was her second single as an artists and her first single under her new management. She stood as a judge on the Voice of West Hills Mall in 2016, and has performed on credible big local platforms including The Ghana Music Awards Nominees Concert (2016) 4Syte Music Video Awards (2016), and also performed on at Coke Studio Africa (2016), Yaws Fashion Show (Gambia 2017), Asia-Africa Youth Festival (China,2017).
Bosom P Yung

Inspired by heartbreak, Bosom Pyung is now a hero at what he does. He became a social media sensation immediately after he was spotted performing “Ataa Adwoa” in a video. A tweet from African’s rap god Sarkodie went viral. Since then the young champ has become a news item. His creativity, style, brand and genre of music he does is second to none.
