The brand filed a trademark infringement and counterfeiting lawsuit against the retailer in New York federal court, stating that the latter had been selling products that are “blatant reproductions” of the house’s trademark check pattern.
WWD reports that the suit alleges that Burberry originally sent Target a cease-and-desist letter in early 2017 and this only led to more products bearing the check from the company, stating in the suit that the products were “superficially indistinguishable” from the British brand’s own products. Burberry is seeking $2 million USD for each alleged trademark infringement, as well as fees, punitive damages and any profits stemmed from the sales of said products.
