New York–based Willy Chavarria returns to the spotlight with a new collaboration for Zara, presenting a collection that feels as much like storytelling as it does fashion. Known for spotlighting diverse creative voices, Zara continues to expand its cultural reach, following recent partnerships with figures such as John Galliano. This time, the focus turns to the rich emotional world of Mexican telenovelas and the nostalgic atmosphere of vintage Mexico City.

Titled VATÍSIMO, the collection is rooted in Chavarria’s personal memories. Inspired by watching telenovelas with his grandmother, he blends those influences with the heightened glamour of 1980s American television like Dallas and Dynasty. The result is an imagined setting filled with drama, intensity, and striking visual moments. Every piece feels like it belongs to a character living within that world.

The concept of glamour and drama runs throughout the collection. Rather than designing individual garments in isolation, Chavarria approaches the process through storytelling, creating looks that embody personalities and emotions. There is a sense of theatricality, but also humor and warmth, giving the collection depth beyond its bold appearance.

The name VATÍSIMO carries cultural weight. Derived from “vato,” a term commonly used in Chicano communities, it reflects connection, friendship, and pride. It speaks to belonging and shared identity, reinforcing the deeper message behind the collaboration.

Visually, the collection stays true to Chavarria’s signature style. Tailoring is strong and expressive, with sharp lines and exaggerated proportions that command attention. Everyday essentials such as hoodies, polos, flannels, and denim are elevated through his perspective, balancing streetwear with refinement. In womenswear, softer elements emerge through bow-tied tops, sculpted bodysuits, and lace dresses, creating a contrast between strength and delicacy. Many pieces are designed to be worn across genders, highlighting fluidity and inclusivity.

More than just a fashion release, this collaboration reflects a broader cultural narrative. It centers Latino identity with authenticity and care, offering representation that feels both personal and widely relatable. Through this collection, Chavarria continues his mission to celebrate heritage while pushing contemporary fashion forward.

The collection will be available starting March 26 at midnight EST through Zara.
