Ajax And adidas Pay Tribute To Bob Marley’s ‘Three Little Birds’ With 2021/22 Third Kit
Ajax and adidas (XETRA:ADS.DE -0.45%) Football have unveiled the Dutch side’s third kit for the 2020/21 season in which the pair have paid tribute to legendary reggae musician Bob Marley.
The Amsterdam based club — whose fans have adopted Three Little Birds as its anthem — will wear its new jersey in this season’s European competitions alongside its classic home kit. Predominantly black, the third jersey features red, yellow and green detailing, while on the reverse of the jersey a subtle reference to the iconic song is made with three little birds sitting on Amsterdam’s Andreas crosses.
The story of Ajax, Bob Marley and Three Little Birds began in 2008, when Ajax played a friendly match in Cardiff, against Cardiff City F.C. The Ajax fans were asked to remain in the stands after the game and to entertain them the stadium DJ played several tracks — one of which was Three Little Birds. The fans instantly embraced the song as their own and have been singing it at every game since.
Arriving alongside the kit is a track top, track pants, sweater, and T-Shirts, as well as a pair of archetypal Samba sneakers. Originating from the world of football, the Samba also dons the red, yellow and green stripes, and features the Ajax crest on the tongue of the shoe and the three little birds on Amsterdam’s Andreas crosses on the heel tab.
The full Ajax x adidas Football x Bob Marley collection is available to buy now from the club’s webstore and adidas.
