The fashion glitterati flocked to New York this week as designers sent their 2021 collection with a show; a digital fashion show is certainly one way to get around social distancing rules, New York City Fashion Week took this year’s edition to another level. 

While we also looked forward to divergent new designs and of course the vibrant style, we were more excited to see Ghanaian designer, DEShe Kollection, on the show schedule, as well as others, presenting collections during one of the busiest periods in fashion.

With every New York City Fashion Week season, there is a promising increase in the diversity on the runways, from models to designers and much more.

The African fashion design hub based in Ghana, DEShe Kollections presented her brand’s 2021 collection titled ‘DEShe Extraordinaire’. According to the creative designer, Ms. Sheba Sharon Quartey when asked about the objective and inspiration for DEShe Extraordinaire she said, “We are adapting innovation to best fit our needs today and something to build on as a global showcase for the future. DEShe Extraordinaire is an art that aims to encourage and strengthen bonds of solidarity between all African descent, my main reason for featuring many pieces inspired by Egyptian culture and African culture at large”

The virtual presentation was intended to transport the viewer back to when it was normal to walk on the red carpet with adoring paparazzi flashing away. Fashion has always been an escape from the gloom and turmoil going on around us, and this collection is doing the most to evoke positivity, and most importantly hope.

The show was produced by Runway Ghana and had models such as Nadia Asantwaa Wangyimba, Prisca Abah, Joy Ubeku, Pearl Beulah Okai and Face of runway Ghana Araba Sey
