After eight successful seasons of the Global Fashion Week produced by Global Ovations in collaboration with FCC productions, this year’s event spotlighted the creative powers of connected cultures around the world. Showcasing some of the world’s finest designers with their exceptional collections on an exquisite purpose-built ramp strode on by world-class models, the event, which was held over the weekend at Ghana’s La Palm Royal Beach Hotel, was a night of fashion extravaganza that delighted fashion lovers, style influencers, and costume connoisseurs.

Highlights from GFW ‘21

From Belgium, Jana Roos, inspired by her roots, presented a unique and imaginative flowery fairy-tale-themed costume line, ‘Call for Eden’, which was a breath of fresh air to audience present at the GFW. Roos’ costume collection was elegantly designed with an eerie sense of tranquillity and assertiveness.

London-based Rwandan designer, Izubaa, showcased her novel SS2022 collection which brings back the love for grace and elegance of oversized tailoring from the ’80s and ’90s. The runway was lit with an ethereal array of colourful fabrics and chic designs inspired under the African sun.

Big Brother Nigeria VI and Mr. Africa International finalist, Emmanuel Umoh Jr, was featured as a guest model for most designers on the night as part of his first official visit to Ghana. He donned a collection of designs created for the unconventional, courageous and confident man. Another highlight of the night was the ATL Show dubbed ‘Walking for Change’ which saw celebrated broadcaster Akumaa Mama Zimbi and actress Rabby Bray model in high-quality fabrics that will make any woman feel chic yet comfortable.

In all, the night saw incredible designs crafted with finesse from celebrated fashion designers in Ghana like Yvonne Ex, Fenz, Sename, JayRay Ghartey, Ar’Shia Wilson, Seyi Jones, Cee Ami, AB Martins, JANTS Collection, Bushai Weave, Tiag Couture, Hamz Fashion and Jacques Logoh from Togo.

Interlaced with the fashion show was the Global Style Icon and Impact Award which recognized and honored outstanding contributions and achievements of fashion icons in Africa who are dedicated to the advancement of the artistry of the fashion industry.
