Virgil Abloh And Off-White™ Craft Face Masks And Shirts In Support Of Cleveland Clinic
After a busy month in which Virgil Abloh partnered with Vitra and rejoined Jacob & Co., to name only two joint efforts, the Off-White™ founder has introduced yet another charitable endeavor. This time, Abloh has partnered with Los Angeles production studio Suay for a special face mask that meets the high standards of — and financially benefits — the Cleveland Clinic.
At the core of the partnership is a wear-tested, intelligently-designed face mask. Available in blue or green, the mask is washable and tough, crafted from two-ply polypropylene surgical wrap encased in a bias-cut Japanese power mesh and made by hand in Suay’s workshop. Adjustable ear loops, neon-toned binding and a contoured shape feature in the innovative design, which comes in compostable packaging as per standard for Suay’s eco-friendly work.
The partnership’s accompanying “I SUPPORT OUR HEALTHCARE HEROES” shirt, which mirrors the typeface utilized for Abloh’s “I SUPPORT BLACK BUSINESSES” Stüssy tee, was gifted to Suay and the Cleveland Clinic’s staff alongside a monetary donation for the latter.
“In the grand scheme of things, projects like these are when fashion is the most important,” Abloh said in a statement. “Masking is critical to limiting the spread of COVID-19 in our communities,” Lara Kalafatis, chair of Cleveland Clinic’s Philanthropy Institute, continued. “We are grateful for [Virgil Abloh and Suay’s] commitment to helping us meet a critical need as we navigate this global health crisis.”
Purchase one of the masks on Abloh’s Canary Yellow website.
