On Sunday August 30, the 2020 MTV VMAs aired and it was truly like no other awards show. For one, the red carpet was actually a virtual one that was staged ahead of time.

From Ariana Grande‘s stunning Mugler look to Lady Gaga‘s futuristic ensembles, presenters and performers all photographed their looks well before the actual show with some even low-key sharing it ahead of time.

Other notable looks were from Doja Cat, Miley Cyrus, Jaden Smith, The Weeknd, BTS, Nicole Richie, Bella Hadid, Maluma, Machine Gun Kelly and many more.

Even though the MTV VMAs ended up being largely remote — and we missed what was usually the most adventurous red carpet of awards show season — there were still plenty of standout looks.
