For Y-3‘s “20 Years: Re-coded” campaign, up-and-coming filmmaker Gabriel Moses captures football icon Zinedine Zidane in a series of black-and-white stills and a short film as the brand reflects on the past two decades.

Zidane, who’s widely considered as one of the greatest playmakers of all time and proceeded to undertake a successful coaching career for Real Madrid, featured in a number of campaigns and runway shows for Y-3 throughout the years.

For the 20th anniversary campaign, Yohji Yamamoto’s design aesthetics for Y-3 sportswear is interpreted through Zidane’s indomitable aura and defining elegance and technique on the pitch. “Long-term friend of Y-3, Zidane, represents a deeply connective thread that brings key moments from the brand’s 20-year history to today, and reimagines them for tomorrow,” writes Y-3.

Pieces on display include black and white sweatsuits, puffer vests, hoodies, trenchcoats, and Y-3’s latest UltraBOOST 22 silhouette.

“The Zidane campaign represents an intervention – a moment of reflection to look back on figures with an iconic relationship to Yohji Yamamoto and Y-3,” campaign creative director Jamie Reid explained. “The pairing of one of football’s all-time greats with Gabriel Moses, an incredible artist of a new generation, offers a fresh interpretation of the brand’s past, present, and future”.

The collection is now available in select regions on the adidas (XETRA:ADS.DE -6.64%) Y-3 website. Take a retrospective look at the past two decades of Y-3 here.
